Academic writing in Dutch

In this course, you learn the difference between academic and non-academic texts. You will include information from academic sources in your own texts and practice with objective, accurate, and, most of all, formulating clearly.

During the lessons you will discuss with fellow students interesting mistakes from your own and others' work. You get tips to eliminate gaps in your knowledge of grammar (e.g., refer words, active vs passive) and to systematically refer to relevant sources. Furthermore, you will design a text plan for your own academic text, which you will then shape step by step. An important element in this process is providing feedback on draft texts from fellow students.

This course is aimed at native speakers. If Dutch is your second language and you have achieved level B2, then look at our Nt2 Advanced courses

By the end of the course you:

  • divide the writing process into "bite-sized" sub-steps;
  • look critically at your own texts;
  • look critically at the sources on which you base your own text;
  • adapt your texts to the (academic) reader;
  • find your own solutions to grammar, spelling, and punctuation problems;
  • make spoken or written information accessible to a different audience and/or in a different medium or register.
